IELTS Writing Task 2 從 7.0 上 7.5 的關鍵：3 個 lexical 升級技巧

拿到 7.0 後最難的就是再上 0.5。本文拆解 7.0 跟 7.5 在 lexical resource 上的差異，給出 30 個 academic 連接詞範例。

為什麼 7.0 上 7.5 這麼難？

這是教 IELTS 學員最常被問的題目。答案藏在 IELTS Writing Band Descriptors 的細節裡：

• Band 7 lexical: "uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision"
• Band 7.5 lexical: 介於 7 與 8 之間 → 需要展現 "less common items" 並具備 "awareness of style and collocation"

關鍵字是 less common 和 collocation。簡單說：你不能再用 "very important", "many people think", "a lot of advantages" 這種國中等級的搭配。

升級技巧 1：替換「萬用爛字」

警告：不要為了用「漂亮字」而誤用。寫 "the issue is paramount" OK；寫 "I paramount the cake" 就完蛋。每個替代字都要查 collocation。

升級技巧 2：30 個 academic 連接詞範例

把連接詞分 5 組記憶，每組挑 1-2 個變熟練比 30 個都會但都不熟好。

組 1：Adding（補強論述）

• moreover, furthermore, in addition, what is more
• not only ... but also ...
• coupled with this, it is also worth noting that ...

組 2：Contrasting（對比）

• conversely, on the contrary, by contrast
• having said that, that being said
• whereas, while

組 3：Conceding（讓步）

• admittedly, granted, it is true that ...
• although + clause / despite + noun
• to be fair, one might argue that ...

組 4：Cause / Effect（因果）

• consequently, as a result, hence, thereby
• this gives rise to / this paves the way for ...
• by virtue of / owing to / on account of

組 5：Exemplifying（舉例）

• for instance, to illustrate, a case in point is ...
• as exemplified by ... / as evidenced by ...

升級技巧 3：精準 collocation 庫

7.5 的 essay 讀起來「自然」，是因為用對了詞組（noun + verb / adjective + noun 的常見搭配）。學生最常踩雷的是動詞 collocation：

教育	acquire knowledge / broaden one's horizons / foster creativity / instill values
環境	mitigate pollution / curb emissions / conserve resources / address the issue
科技	revolutionize the way / streamline processes / pose threats to / harness the power of
經濟	stimulate growth / boost productivity / alleviate poverty / generate revenue
社會	bridge the gap / address disparities / cultivate awareness / shape attitudes

練習方式：每週挑一個主題，把 5 個 collocation 各造一個句子並寫進你下一篇 essay。4 週後這 20 個就會變成你的反射動作。

一個範例段落改寫

Band 7（學生原文）：

Many people think technology is very important for education. It can help students learn faster and use more information. But there are also some bad things, like students might not focus well in class.

Band 7.5+（升級版）：

Technology has become pivotal in modern education, with a substantial number of educators contending that it accelerates learning and broadens access to information. Nevertheless, this transformation is not without drawbacks; the prevalence of digital distractions, for instance, can severely compromise students' ability to sustain attention in class.

對比之後，你會發現升級版沒有更難的字，只是把同一個意思用 less common items + correct collocation 重新組裝。
